Book Reviews

“It is refreshing to hear the transparency and extreme honesty Kim shares with the reader about the life of the wife of a musician. As I read her new book entitled, "Me, My Man and His Music,” it reminded me of the vast difference of a helpmate and a help meet.  However, the musician must always remember that they also have a responsibility to the mate, which will ultimately produce the best tour of your life, which is the "Tour of Life," with your mate.

Thank you Kim for sharing your personal journey and allowing all of us to be blessed by the tremendous contribution that Marvin has given to the Kingdom in music ministry and integrity. Also, thank you Kim for each year of your marriage together, was crucially beneficial for Marvin’s impeccable timing as a world-class drummer. The lessons he learned in your marriage helped solidify his gait, and the lessons you lived produced the rhythm that both of you needed for survival.

This book will be the life line for many wives and much needed instruction of priorities for musicians all over the world to maintain and sustain divine balance in their marriage and as coverings for their families.”

“When you love and believe in your husband you must learn to love his dream; allow his calling to manifest and support his decisions. When I see Dennis behind the drums I know in my heart that God has blessed him with a special gift.  It's not often this day and time to find a profession you love and enjoy, and I would never stand in the way of that for my man, or stand in the way of God's plan! I know what he does is hard work. To some it sounds like the perfect plan to travel the world but they don't see life behind the faces that are there to bring them hours of memories from their favorite musicians. Those same faces are missed at home.

As Dennis is the head of my household I know that his ultimate goal is to love his family, protect and provide for us.  And as his helpmate I know I have to do my part. Sometimes it’s hard, when you’re frustrated, lonely, stressed, and just plain old tired. But when you think of what he is doing your feelings begin to subside.  I believe that when God is in it, He planned it and will take care of it!  God will make a way!  He will put the right people in your path to be supportive when your husband is away.  You have to stay prayed up, rooted and grounded in God's Word and He will work everything out.

In Kim’s book, “Me, My Man and His Music," she offers wisdom and insight that I know will help wives of musicians in supporting the unique man they are married to. This book is a must read for musicians and their wives.”

“I have known Marvin McQuitty since the mid 1980's when I was producing albums for The Winans (that was before CDs). I was impressed then with Marvin's musicianship but even more impressed by his love and commitment to our Lord Jesus. As time has passed, Marvin has become a great musician and has grown even stronger spiritually. I am thankful that Kim has decided to write this book and I endorse this book and Kim and Marvin completely. They are people that you can trust and I trust that Kim's book will be a blessing in your life.”

Adrian and I have known the McQuitty's since 1997 when we were only engaged to be married.  Marvin has always been a gifted, loyal, "self-last" man and diligence personified. Kim has always been a brilliant, giving, supporting, loving wife and mother. Their daughters are our adopted nieces and we are truly blessed to have them in our lives.

The industry we are in is not kind to marriages and families.  In fact, it is many times an adversary to marriage and the family because it's value system depends on absolute availability and flexibility.  In fact, that access should only be granted by a person to their family.

Honor, integrity, and fidelity are exchanged for talent, pride, and sensuality.

Men and women like Marvin and Kim have found a way to survive the "beautiful monster" called the music business with their marriage and children standing together.  Scars and all, they work daily to help others survive in arenas that attempt to demand the exchange of family for success. This book is penned by a woman of honor, a lady of God's love.  Kim has the pedigree of time and experience seasoned by God's grace and anointing.  Our prayer is that this book speaks long after her voice fails and that it's pages serve as a survival guide to musicians and spouses worldwide.
